I Survived

...The Halloween and Vine Show, that is. What a fabulous weekend. This was my first time to show my work at this particular show and my first venture into Halloween art. This is a truly fantastic show and the quality of the work is excellent. Artists from all over the United States and one from Canada came to show and collectors came from all over the US as well. All of the artists were so warm in welcoming me to this event. And the organizers of the event were very warm and extremely well organized. This was the best show I have ever done.

The attendance was almost double that of last year. What a pleasant surprise for all of us artists who have been struggling these past few years. We have seen so many art/craft shows where attendance has dropped off dramatically and fewer artists are showing and the quality of work is diminishing. I have found that so many of my artist friends, as well as myself, were becoming so discouraged for the seeming lack of interest. We all fully understand that these are very strange times in which we are trying to live, but golly, how do people survive without art?

And speaking of art, I suppose some folks are wondering just exactly what my art looks like. Here I am carrying on about art and there are no pictures. I confess...I am a little bit confused about how this blogging business works and how to upload and download whatever to where ever. But I am learning. Actually, I have been so consumed by getting everything ready for the show that all else got shoved to the back burner. And there have been so many things to catch up on after the show. I think I have recovered to some degree from the excitement of the show and now I will begin posting photos and things of visual interest.

This is Mephistopheles, or Mephisto for short. He is the character to whom Faust sells his soul. I know this guy pretty well from having worked on a fantastic production of Mefistofeles, the Italian opera version of the story for San Francisco Opera. In French it is "ph" and Italian it is 'f", just to try to keep the confusion down.

This is Endora. What fun she was to create. She seems to be in a bit of a quandry as to exactly which ingredient she just dropped in the pot. "Was it eye of frog or toe of newt?" Poor dear.

I seem to be getting the hang of this blog thing. So more later.

It is never too late to learn new things

So this old dog is off on a new adventure. After years of working in professional theatre and grand opera in costuming, I have found myself retired and now have time to become whomever I desire and to create my own personal artwork. For many years, as a sideline, I created Fine Art Dolls. Recently, however, I have become totally absorbed in my favorite holiday of the year....Halloween. I am now having way more fun than any old fart like me should be having. I am creating figures of ghosts, witches, and devils. I am very excited to announce that I will be premiering these new works at a very special Halloween Art Show called Halloween and Vine in Petaluma, CA on Sept. 29, 2007. If you live in the area and would like to drop by, please do so and introduce yourself. Oh, and mention that you saw the blog. Check out the great Halloween and Vine website and see works by all of the other artists that will be showing: www.halloweenandvine.com A lot of great artists will be showing really creative things. And everything is Halloween! What fun.
